Reading Time: 2 minutes On the eve of the day that we'll send 2013 packing forever, many people are swearing off sweets, caffeine, alcohol and a host of other evils - tomorrow. Funny thing about resolutions is that they always start tomorrow, but revelations occur when we take active steps with a resolution today. When I married, I was young, athletic and very active. After five years of marriage, I was still young, but far less athletic, and not active at all. My weight began to spiral and I found myself constantly resolving to lose weight tomorrow. Of course, the only thing that I ever achieved was finding reasons tomorrow to go ahead and indulge in that bowl of ice cream. My weight problems continued. I became frustrated and felt like I was not in control of my own life because I could never seem to follow through with a resolution. One day, I stopped trying to make a resolution for the future and decided to start working on my problems. It was midday, but it didn't matter - I sat down and began counting my caloric intake. Once I completed that, I did a set of pushups, jumping jacks, and situps. It wasn't about doing something tomorrow, but it was about being fed up with my past and taking actions immediately to change my future. After just one week, I had dropped 5 pounds simply by paying attention to what I was putting in my body and making sure I remained active. Of course I wouldn't keep losing weight at that rate, but the immediate results did something that all the resolutions could never do - it gave me a revelation that I could become a fit, active adult, again. It gave me a glimpse of what life can be like when I take control of my own decisions. This revelation is what gave me power to ultimately drop 35 pounds in 5 months and return to an active, healthy lifestyle. So, as the world is flippantly claiming what they're going to start or stop doing beginning tomorrow, why not take steps today? Why not make today the day you start accepting accountability on your phone? Make the choice today to change your browsing habits. Decide today that you've had enough of pixels controlling your life and draw a line in the sand - today. Today is the day you need to capture. Today is the day to allow accountability to change your life. Do these things today and tomorrow you'll have a revelation - and that revelation will drive your resolution in a wildly successful circle.
